Tania Culottes!

If you asked me six months ago what Culottes were, I’d have told you I had no clue!!! They’re not something that was overly popular in Oregon where I grew up, but I’m hoping that they’ll become super popular now as by god these shorts are AMAZING! They are very similar to skorts in the way that they are a skirt which looks like shorts, such an ingenious idea and aren’t they pretty!?!?!!!!

As you may have gathered, this is my first ever pair of culottes, made using the Tania Culottes pattern by Australian designer Megan Nielsen, I bought this pattern in the UK here but it looks like they are currently out of stock (this is a very popular pattern!!!)

This is my second Megan Nielsen pattern (see Briar T-Shirt post) and both patterns are very easy to follow, this skirt came together in about 2-3 hours, it has four pattern pieces for the shorts, two pieces for the waistband and 2 pieces for the waistband facing, it closes with a hidden zip on one side.

I used this vintage floral fabric in a poly cotton with a nice drape, this fabric was purchased from a seller that had bought it at an estate sale so it’s nice to give it a new lease of life.

I think these culottes work well in poly cotton, the fit is nice but not too stretch (which might have caused zip problems) and they don’t need ironing (my kind of shorts!)

This photo kind of shows how much fabric goes in to these awesome culottes, they are really floaty and comfortable on.

I cut these 3 inches longer than my size as I’d read several comments that they were on the short side – I’m happy with the length on mine after adjustments, that was the only adjustment I made to the pattern.

I don’t normally tuck my tops in, but the culottes do look great with a tucked in top – so I have adjusted my styling.  I did wear them all day Saturday with a top out and that looked great too!

I couldn’t resist including this lovely photo of me and Emma, she’s wearing her lovely Tilly top made by Brownie-Goose and a pair of ruffle linen Oliver +S Picnic Shorts I made her, as you can see we both love rocking handmade!

I love your culottes – look super comfy and very practical for a busy mum. Love the photo of you and Baby Bobbins too – she’s a photocopy of you!
